For the next 5 weeks: English only!

On Thursday, March 2, our new project "English in the World" will start. For five weeks the main language at the IGS Süd will be ENGLISH!

What does this mean for both, the students and the teachers? Alessandra, one of our pupils and a native speaker, asked Mr. Pilgrim, our English teacher about the goals of this project.

Why are we doing an English project?

To learn a foreign language, it's necessary to read, to listen and to speak continuously. During the "Fachbüro" we don't have enough time. That's why we will build an English speaking community at the IGS Süd for a couple of weeks.

How will we work?

Each class will focus on two anglophone countries. We will work with information from various English-speaking sources such as books, websites etc. We will also work at the public library. We will prepare several presentations in English about the countries. The pupils will choose amongst several themes such as food, animals, cities, famous people.

What is special?

During the next 5-6 weeks English will be spoken during the whole day - in the morning-circle, in the breaks, during lunchtime at the cafeteria. We will also sing a lot of English songs and we play games.

On the last day of our project, we will have guests from English-speaking countries from all over the world. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the students to practice their English.

What about the teachers?

Everybody of the teachers will have to speak English, be it the PE teacher or the maths teacher or the teacher of German. We will get support by two student-teachers of the Goethe-University in Frankfurt. They will be here for the five thursdays of the project.

Bericht vom 2.

If you are happy and you know it". Beim Singen haben wir Bewegungen gemacht: 1. Clap your hand, 2. stamp your feet, 3. say Hurray, 4. do all three.
